Not only does Whole Foods Market have a general blog that gives a new daily recipe, but Whole Foods Market also features two blogs that are written by the CEOs of the company, John Mackey and Walter Robb. All three blogs are updated pretty regularly, although the CEO blogs aren't updated quite as frequently as the general blog. Throughout the general blog about food and recipes, Whole Foods Market doesn't explicitly talk about their food products. They are very subtle when placing their logo on anything and understand that if someone is on their blog looking at recipes it is likely that they will shop at their store for the ingredients so they don't need to advertise their brand as blatantly. On the CEO blogs, the posts are about the company itself or related topics in society that relate to food, business and ethical choices.
When looking at other food and beverage blogs I noticed that Whole Foods Market was one of the only blogs that didn't just talk about their products and other food and beverages. Whole Foods Market is able to cover ground from talking about sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving to an update about their responsibly grown rating system and their Animal Welfare Standards. Since they host three different blogs, they can cover more topics that their audience is interested in.
Whole Foods Market is creating content that is culturally relevant and catches the attention of their audience for multiple reasons that are deeper than just food and beverages. There is a very nice balance between news and food talk across the three blogs. Having these three blogs makes it simple for an audience member to find a post that they want to read. They can go to the general blog to find food and beverage related posts or either of the CEO blogs to find posts about the ethical choices that Whole Foods Market stands behind.
Blog followers, do you think it is important for a company/brand to focus just as much on their services and products as they do on current events and issues that relate to their company/brand in their corporate blog? Why? I think it is very important, because it shows that the company is socially responsible and cares about more than the bottom line.
